How to set up your Discord bio (About Me)

The About Me field is tucked inside your user profile, not in server settings.

1. 1Desktop: click the gear icon in the bottom-left, then open the Profiles tab. Find the About Me box, paste your template, preview it, and hit Save.
2. 2Mobile: tap your avatar in the bottom-right, then tap Edit Profile. Open the About Me section, paste, preview, and save.

That's the only place your main Discord bio lives. If you want a different bio in a specific community, Nitro's per-server profiles can use a server-specific About Me without changing your main profile.

How to use a template

1. 1Copy a Discord bio template from the list above. The whole flow is just discord bio copy paste - grab, edit, save.
2. 2Replace the placeholders - [name], [pronouns], [interest] - with your own details.
3. 3Check the character count. Discord includes emojis, markdown, and links in the 190-character limit, and decorated frames use that space quickly. If you're over, cut a divider or shorten a line.
4. 4Paste into About Me and save.
5. 5Check it on both desktop and mobile. Some Unicode symbols and markdown formatting render differently on Android - if anything shows as a blank box, swap that symbol for one from the bio maker's symbol board.

Rules, limits, and tips

The 190-character limit, exactly

Discord's official profile documentation sets the About Me limit at 190 characters, including emojis, markdown text, and links. Nitro members can use custom emojis, but Discord does not document a larger Nitro bio limit. See the official Custom Profiles guide for the current rules. Does markdown work in a Discord bio?

Yes. Discord's official profile documentation says About Me supports markdown text and links. Keep the formatting simple and verify the saved result in Discord rather than assuming every chat-formatting feature works identically in a profile.

• Documented support: Discord lists markdown text, links, emojis, and Unicode characters in its official Custom Profiles guide.
• Safe starting point: use basic emphasis such as **bold** or *italic*, then use Discord's View Full Profile preview before saving.
• Treat complex syntax as optional: chat features such as code blocks, quotes, spoilers, or subtext are not needed for a readable bio and may change with client updates.
• Keep links short: links count toward the same 190-character budget. Use one clear destination and confirm it is clickable in the saved profile.

Markdown should improve scanning, not become the main visual effect. The templates above use readable text first and decoration second.

Colored text isn't a thing in About Me

Code-block syntax highlighting (the trick that colors text in Discord chat) does not work in the About Me field. If you see "colored" text in someone's bio, it's fancy Unicode characters - 𝕕𝕠𝕦𝕓𝕝𝕖-𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕦𝕔𝕜, 𝓈𝒸𝓇𝒾𝓅𝓉, 𝖌𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖈 - not real color. You can copy those from a Unicode font tool, but they won't render on every device (see below).

Unicode symbols and the Android problem

This is the part most Discord bio template pages skip. Whether you're picking symbols or figuring out how to put emojis in discord bio without blowing the character budget, fancy Unicode doesn't render everywhere:

• Script and double-struck fonts (𝓈𝑜𝒻𝓉, 𝕕𝕠𝕦𝕓𝕝𝕖) render on iOS and most desktop clients, but some code points show as blank boxes (tofu) on Android.
• Exotic symbols (like 𐙚) can fail even on iOS.
• Circled and parenthesized letters (ⓐ, ⒜) are in the BMP and render reliably across devices - which is why the cute templates on this page lean on them.

If your bio looks perfect on desktop but turns into a row of □□□ on your phone, the device font probably lacks those glyphs. A simulated preview can catch obvious spacing problems, but only Discord on your actual devices can confirm symbol support.

Links, and keeping them clean

You can put a URL in About Me and Discord makes it clickable. Long invite links and tracking URLs look messy in a 190-character box, though, and they burn characters fast. Keep links short, put just one, and let the rest of the bio do the talking.

Common Discord bio mistakes

• Stuffing the box with symbols until there's no room for actual info about you.
• Writing a paragraph that's hard to scan on a phone, where Discord wraps text around 35 characters wide.
• Sharing personal data - full name, address, school, phone number. About Me is public; treat it like a billboard, not a diary. (source)
